When I was in Nicaragua last year, my roommate Sarah was using an activated charcoal deodorant called Piperwai. If you read my post on finding a natural deodorant that works, you know that I have not had the best experience with Tom's, Crystal, and others, and was reluctant in trying others. Sarah let me try hers and I was blown away! It totally works! The activated charcoal balances the body's pH and acts as a natural deodorizer and antiperspirant.

Recently I've also been trying to curb my spending and consuming, and I had some activated charcoal pills lying around I had gotten as a free sample. I thought, I bet I could (attempt) to re-create that activated charcoal deodorant. So I did, and it works pretty well! I will say- it's a little dry and crumbly, so I've suggested you add more coconut oil in the recipe below. And because it's dark in color, you may want to apply in the shower so it doesn't get all over your floor.

Ingredients:

  • 2.5 Tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 tsp activated charcoal
  • 1 Tbsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp magnesium oil (optional)
  • 1 Tbsp corn starch OR arrowroot powder
  • 10-40 drops of essential oil (I suggest Tea Tree since it's a naturally antibacterial. I also used Peppermint, Eucalyptus, and Lavender)

Mix all ingredients in a bowl, put final product into a mason jar and store in the shower for easy use. So easy!
